What is Prestige?

There are a number of wonders and projects that give you a prestige bonuses, but what does prestige do for you? Does it help you negotiate with other civilizations? Is it related to diplomacy?

It is. We were supposed to go and make sure it was all changed to influence, must have missed some.

Influence = Prestige.
Approval Rating = Morale.

Thanks Frogboy, especially for the second one. While I'd had no problem assuming approval rating and morale were inextricably connected, it's nice to know that they are, indeed, exactly the same thing.
