New question: How to colonize quickly on a gigantic map

Have to run, so wont be able to reply today.

On G map, I run into my first alien and Bam it has 14 planets to my 6.

Is it possible to win when the aliens colonize waaay more planets than you do on the gigantic map?
I was thinking probably not. Also I learned not to start in a corner, lol, was influenced to death and could reach no planets cause the AI nearby expanded in every direction whereas I could only expand in limited direction.

I put out as many colony ships as I possibly could. Bright AI btw.

I can out-expand the AI on Huge (did it from a corner start, too); haven't tried Gigantic yet though. Probably will tonight... I'll let you know what happens. :)

I like corners and I play on those G maps. Basically, it is less ways for my enemies to attack me and easier to defend; as opposed to starting from the central position. Of course, that position does have its advantages and disadvantages.

A quick way to colonize? Take a look at the minimap, it tells you the location of the various stars. If your sector has some stars, take them first and try to get a couple of scouts to check out the adjoining sectors. You can and should do the same with the survey ship.

As for colony ships, send them out to either adjoining sectors or pass them to end of range. Keep an eye out for YELLOW stars and grab them quickly. Definitely keep an eye out for 20+ planets. Hope this help. By the way, if a star has multiple useable planets, don't bother with those until you get plenty of stars. Then go and colonize those other planets in the systems.

One of my biggest problem was dealing with the need to have 50+ planets for starting my empire. The more planets is the better. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get up to that before having to deal with my neighbors.
