The same 5 civs every game, is the AI enough to compensate?

The same five major civilizations are in every game of GalCiv played. These civs have the same bonuses every single game, yes? All I can effect is whether they are good or evil. It seems the only way to get a truly unique experience out of each game is to change my own strategy. But in reality many players will pick a strategy and stick with it. For example in Moo2 I usually played Psilon and went for technological superiority. Each game of Moo2 was different primarily because of what random races ended up populating the galaxy and starting location. If I play GalCiv the same every time, is the AI for each race really complex enough make each game seem unique?

Indeed. The AI is superb..
If you try the game you will see that its not easy to try and pull things on the computer, build a starbase in the "wrong" location and the ai-race will prompt you about it. Try to build up forces around his solarsystem and the computer-ai will see that and reinforce its defences, and many more things... Its a quite good AI;)

hi there

IMO the a.i. is by far and away the best a.i.'s ever. I have completed over 30 games and it has never ever felt the same yet. There are so many variables in how the a.i. deals with you. How Powerful are you, where are you on the evil to saint scale, do you have something they want. the list goes on. ZIn the whole time i've been playing i've never completely ever figured out the a.i

hope this helps

Not sure where it was, but I asked a similar question and somebody (I THINK Frogboy) explained that the AI races do NOT have the same bonuses each game. They purchase their abilities at the start of each game in a similar manner to the way the human player does. I think he said that each AI had a list of abilities to choose from (compatable with that AI's overall strategic style), but their actual choices each game are somewhat random.

If someone who knows more than me (a sheep perhaps?) can be more specific or accurate, please do. :P

looks like this has enuff replay value to stay on my drive as longs Civ 2, MOM, and MOO2! Those are the olds turn based games I have and they have never come off. (mostly becasue I want to keep the Hall of Fame scores (hehe heh)

Not only do the AI start out with different abilities, they also persue different victories or even if the for example Arceans are doing a military strategy they will react different then their previous if they chose 2 do that.

Setting all races to random is a nice feature 2 :)
Well, the gold version is alot better for sure then the beta I have now :d
