crash to desktop

My only crash to desktop in about 10 games in tiny/small/medium galaxies happened yesterday. Don't know if it is a general problem or specific to the game I was playing which had been going for about 8 hours non stop.
Drengin were defeated - their last star system rebelled and joined an AI player. In the same turn I went into the foreign relations screen where the drengin were still listed. Thought I would look at a few spy reports to see how the drengin were doing just prior to their demise. Immediate crash to desktop upon pressing one of the report buttons. Bit of a shock and happened too quickly to be more accurate - sorry.
I suspect program data tables for state of drengin empire had been wiped upon their demise but report button still trying to access them or similar....
