Bury me off of Seven Bridges Road

Duluth,
I'm sorry that I've,
once again,
returned empty handed.

Not a breath closer,
to breathing in
the dreams I had,
perched on your empty roofs,
and while walking your steep 1/2 streets.

If these dreams kill me
I hope they throw my body off of
Seven Bridges Road,

I hope no one finds it,
or places fake flowers on a tombstone,

and in the waters of Lester Creek
a murky light shone,

to the bottom where my dreams let me lay.

Duluth,
it's your fault I have so many dreams
but mine they're unfulfilled,

It's your fault I'm finally older,
but mine my body is still.

I count the waves I ride,
and heard everything they've told,

Bury me,
and bury me deep
off of Seven Bridges Road.

Yet another poem I can really sink my teeth into. Love it, love it, love it. I sense the pains and the beauty of this one...and I can only relate. However, please do not throw me off of seven bridges road. Throw me in Lake Superior so that I may wash up on shore in the form of mermaid tears (sea glass...). You've got a way with words and I am so glad that others may relish in your beauty. Cheers.

Thank you brown-eyed girl, I'll do my best to pass along your "throw into Lake Superior" wishes to those who survive you...hopefully not me. But I will collect your sea glass.

Hmm...no, can't say it was...nor can I say that I know what possible reference was made...never been a big Eagles fan. But hey, glad you loved the reference intentional or not.

Hmm...that's really crazy. Actually, probably coincidental as well, Seven Bridges Road is a beautiful road in Duluth MN that cuts back and forth across Lester Creek. My dad actually has a story about a time he and a friend were driving on it in the winter and actually ran into one of the walls of the 2nd or 3rd bridge. This area has some great memories for me. It only figures that I've ridden my bike on the trecherous trails around this area and never had a flat tire or a bent rim and this morning on the way to work I caused a nice bend in my rear rim that has left a nice wobble that's hitting my rear brakes. Funny how I'm not too upset by it...mostly because it's my own fault, and now I get to hang out with my favorite bike mechanics again.

Man, this week already feels like it's dragging.

in a nice way, that really is crazy, huh ?. my folks listened to the eagles at so many boozy dinner parties when i was growing up in the 70's that the lyrics are burned into my brain. so you can understand why i was surprised to read your reference to "seven bridges road". it's the only reference i've ever heard to it outside of an eagles song, and childhood memories walking around are all in too short supply these days for me.

this is so trippy to me !.

yeah, nothing bad ever happens to me either, until i start caring what i'm doing

this comment of yours should be a poem. i am embarrassing myself with this this big blah. never mind !. i have a huge, 30yo old blue volkswagen bus with dents and bangs all over it, but it just got a new engine, and i spent hours with the volkswagen mechanic talking about it. amazingly, i was enthralled. plus, he has this funky (so-called) "guard dog" that he lets me walk while he works on my car. i doubt i'd ever be able to work on a car myself, but something about oil and grease and workshops fascinates me. it's all so male or something.

btw, i'm not fixing the dents in my car. i'm only worried about the engine. (hmmm ... that could be my life philosophy too)

I really liked the poem. I grew up in Duluth near Seven Bridges Road. It was our playground as kids. If you want to find out about it's history go to: http://www.amitycreek.com/sevenbridges The Eagles' song, written by Steve Young, referred to another road by the same name in Alabama. Four of the bridges in Duluth have been restored. Two more are being restored this summer.

Godzilla - makes my day to hear a response from a Duluthite on this poem. There's probably more weight in these words than I've put into a lot of stuff lately. There's something about that town that has claimed a piece of my soul that it will only let me explore when I'm breathing Lake Superior air.
