I don't hate you

i don’t hate you, truly I don’t
maybe a little envy now and
then,
maybe I close my eyes and
drive your car
something expensive
or roll chocolate drops so
smooth my tongue hallucinates
bud colors
but I don’t hate you
I redress my pettiness
preferring deprivation over
indulgence
and I paint my fantasy in textures
of opulent shame
choking on bile as a last course
in imaginary dining
kings and queens
are all queer to me
but I don’t hate you
I’ll admit when I follow the
living gods
I have little sympathy for their
worship
I am a little fellow looking up
and glad to be so small
unwilling to bow down to cellophane
plastic or the evening news
and again
I don’t hate you
the bright bleached whiteness
of perfectly aligned teeth frame
the TV vision of burning bodies
somewhere else
mariachi’s with big bass
thump entertainment and gallons of
margaritas will fuck silly
debutantes and speedos
still
I don’t hate you
cocktails and tea times
words like “dalliance”
little cookies dipped in virgin
sugar made delicate for melting
not crunching
monuments in superfluous chiffon
and furniture early king George
such a patina
and I don’t hate you
but I think I’m getting a taste for it.
