Planet quality effects defined?

I have not seen any comment on planet quality effects (other than that higher is better for morale)in the manual or on the boards. Is there specific quantitative information on this available?

The only information is that planet qualities 13+ is safely colonizable, while 15+ is acceptable for proper colonization.

Planet qualities 15-17 are similar to Mars, where a domed construction is possible. 18-22 is similar to Earth. 22+ is better than Earth, allowing for more population before morale drops. 30+ and 40+ are extremely good, and are also known as rapid production centres.

According to the manual, 12 is the lowest colonizable (you can grab lower levels, but never expect them to be happy or productive), 13 is Mars, and 16 is Earth. Anything above 17 was "theoretical" but we knew it was out there, especially the time I started off with a Class 20 earth and a class 17 Sol IV and V. :)

Oh, to answer the original question, the best answer is a sticky thread in the GC strategies forum (see the tab on the left of the screen).

From Brad:

Base Morale 89%

Planet Class / Morale Bonuses / Adjusted Morale
15 0 89%
16 7 96%
17 14 103%
18 21 110%
19 29 118%
20 36 125%
21 44 133%
22 51 140%
23 59 148%
24 67 156%
25 75 164%
26 84 173%

So here you can see how morale is affected by planet class. The planet class is very key to determining how useful the planet is.

So would it be correct to say that planet quality affects production, but only indirectly? (That is, higher morale ==> quicker population growth ==> higher population ==> greater production.)

From the Strategy forum, where this is discussed more than in here :)

Class Bonus Morale
15 0 89%
16 7 96%
17 14 103%
18 21 110%
19 29 118%
20 36 125%
21 44 133%
22 51 140%
23 59 148%
24 67 156%
25 75 164%
26 84 173%

Getting people on the planet can tick them off.

Pop(b) Penalty
1 -32%
2 -63%
3 -95%
4 -126%
5 -158%
6 -190%
7 -221%
8 -253%
9 -285%
10 -316%

Then there's your tax rate penalty.
Tax Rate Penalty
10% -1%
20% -4%
30% -9%
40% -16%
50% -25%
60% -36%
70% -49%
80% -64%
90% -81%
100% -100%

Ouch, that explains why the pop of the other civs was so huge, they all had better planets than me.(despite the fact that I had more)
