A few quick questions from a new guy.

This may have been asked before, but after a basic search, couldn't find anything relating to this...

First of all, where is the search feature to search the forums?

Second, what the hell does 'auto retreat' do? When i give this directive to a ship, it doesn't do a damn thing, ever...at the end of the turn, it keeps coming up for me to do something with that ship. I downloaded and printed the manual...but the only reference i saw to this feature is what key to press to activate it. The ship doesn't move away from enemy ships either...i kept hitting auto retreat for one of my ships to see what would happen when a space shark came after it...and sure enough, it never moved, and got killed by it.

thanks.

No search feature in this forum, unfortunately.

As for the auto-retreat, I haven't used it, but my guess is that it has your ship B-line back into your territory. I'll have to try it out tonight.

In combat, if a ship is set to auto-retreat, it will attempt to flee (instead of fire) when it becomes its turn to roll the dice.

I think the idea is, that if something like a basic Starfighter meets a BattleHammer or Frigate, it will try to escape with whatever HP's it has left, as its one die isn't going to do much but scratch the enemy's nameplate and PO it's Captain in round 2 anyway.

Frequently, however, ships that need to do this are so outclassed by what the AI sends after them, they are destroyed on the first round of combat. Personally, I've only seen it happen once, with a 0AF Survey Ship I had out in Yor space.

There is a Search funtion if you use the IE to browse the forums. Using Stardock Central you cannot search yet.
