Alpha Test: Goals?

OK, maybe I'm impatient - or maybe I've missed out on you mentioning this earlier.
What level of functionality do you wish to achieve in the Alpha Test?
IMHO it would give all of us a better grasp of our goals in this initial test, if you could give us an idea of what milestones the Alpha have to pass to be promoted to the first Beta.
I agree with the statement made in the galciv news group, that from a retail prespective the game is not very impressive at the moment. However it has a nice look and feel to it already - and I have no problems projecting this into what the final game will be like.
My greatest problem at the moment, when playing the game, is that I crave information
