Hehe..besides that...I mean do you destroy their little
trade ship that goes to you? Do you surround the source planet of the trade ship with powerful ships? wha?

Why would you want to do that? It benefits you as much as it benefits them..... at least that's what i thought

One reason you may not want to establish trade with another race, is that they may need the income more than you. Sure you benefit as well, but maybe you don't need it as much, and making another Civ struggle economically almost never hurts.

Hm,

would be a nice suggestion for an additional feature:
trade embargos -> prevents a race from creating trade lines with you.

Sweeeeet! I like it. Especially if you can also stop the trade relations when they are already established. And also ask other races to stop trading with a certain empire!!

But I guess your relations with that empire will not really improve, hehe.

To prevent one race from trading with you, the only solution is to keep At war status with them.
Amongst the cool Diplomacy items improvements that could be done, a Trade Embarog without war would be welcome (or it can be made the opposite way, with a Trade Agreement necessary to operate a route)
To prevent ALL trade, drop out of the UP...

To make trade unbalanced in your favor, research Trade techs and build Trade projects and SB modules to make the routes more profitable to you than the aliens.

Options are multiple indeed ... :)

Er, I thought you could do trade embargoes against another race, on the trade screen. Never actually tried it or looked for the option, but I'm sure I read it somewhere. Maybe it was something that was in the manual but never got into the game?

You can trade embargo. Go to the relations screen and click on the trade embargo box. Would be nicer to add this to the diplomatic options as well as requesting others to trade embargo races. Always a useful tactic for causing a trading empire to collaspe.

Thanks Solitair...I was wondering this myself. I spent about an hour one game trying to figure out how to send corvettes after the little cargo ships the civilians (AI) run. I finally concluded the only way to end a trade route was to take the originating star system in the opponent's empire. Learn something new every day!

I must be blind. I can't find this box! :(
Can you describe it better for me or post a screenshot
please?

IIRC, one the stardock folks mentioned that the "trade embargo" feature, which was available in the betas, was removed from the release build due to general bugginess.

This game is very cool because it encourages some role-playing.

However, it is difficult to roleplay a xenophobe or an isolationist when I am constantly forced to trade with other races against my wishes.

The ability to refuse trade routes should be a check box or something for each of the 5 races.

I enjoy trading techs to other races once I've got a good boost to diplomacy; they seem to overpay, because they go negative-balance pretty quickly...nothing like a bankrupt opponent :)

well i'm sure they'll fix up that trade embargo thing
in a future version.

It's in the manual even!

Solitair,

Like Duglis, I too have searched in vain for the fabled "trade embargo box". I went back to simply taking the originating system. Is there a different way to accomplish the same goal. It would certainly save my Fleet some coal! ;)
