Morales and Taxes

When you think about it, morale translates into size of population as population stop growing when morale gets to 50 in the long term. Taxes affect morale and morale affect size of tax-paying populations so there is a long term balance between taxes and size of tax-paying populations. If you keep taxes somewhat high, you get smaller tax-paying populations that may generate less income as you would got from larger populations with lower taxes and vice versa. This balance changes time to time when you get morale and economic bonuses. For instance, tax-paying populations become more efficient in generating income with banks, stock markets, economic exchanges, etc and it may be better to lower taxes to increase morale or build morale-enhancing structures even with added maintenance costs in order to get larger tax-paying population to generate more income in the long term.
By the way I figured out roughly how population on a planet generates income. It is roughly like tax percentage/10 * population (in billions) * economy bonus mulitipler + a PQ base number. There is a minor variable that I can not account but as I said it's a rough figure. Economy bonus is what you see in planet details. If you have 50% then it's 1.5 for the mulitipler. The PQ base number is what you get when you set taxes to zero. You still get something when you set taxes to 0% and it is dependant on PQ, range is like 0-7 for PQ 15-25. For example, I have a class 20 planet with roughly 2 billion peeps, taxes at 50%, and economy bonus about 20%, that would be 50/10 = 5 * 2 = 10 * 1.2 = 12 + 6 ( I think 6 was base number for class 20) = 18 bcs, give or take 1 or 2 bcs.
What I would like to know is how big effect morale has on population size. I don't get Frogboy's morale 'tip' :( The numbers do not yet have meaning to me and I have yet to put them to a practical application. For instance, in my current game, I have two PQ 20 planets of 5.2-5.3 billions with morale of 54-56 and two PQ 18 planets of 3.3 billions with morale of 54-56. My taxes are at 50% and I do not have a deficit. I doubt there are destablization efforts going on from the AIs as it's still relatively early in the game. I have only 20% morale bonus in domestic stats, no morale enhancing trade goods, no morale-enchancing resources, and no morale enhancing structures yet in on the planets. So the PQ, taxes, and population factors should be the only big factors that matter? For the PQ 20 planets I have base morale of 125% subtract 158 % because I have 5 billions and subtract another 25% for taxes of 50% that brings me to -58% ?? That is not what I have for planet morale and is there such thing as negative morale? For the PQ 18 planets I have base morale of 110%, subtract 95%, and subtract another 25% for taxes for 50% and that brings me to -10% ?? Not even in the ball park even with my +20 morale bonus in domestic stats. What's missing? How do you compute morale using the numbers? If you can't then what's the point of Frogboy giving numbers that we can not use for anything? Or did I read it wrong? * shrug *

oops, I meant morale. must be a freudian slip or something. yeah there's a baseball player named Stephen Morales that is with Texas Rangers, there is a famous politican named Dan Morales in Texas, and there is a ghost town named Morales in Texas. I wonder which my sub-conscious mind was thinking of. :) Morales is also a common Mexican suraname, I think.

I just discovered that the income calculation formula i gave out is only close enough with planets with relatively small population and economy bonuses. The variable I can not account for is not so minor when the population grow rather large and the economy bonuses get bigger. The figure can get way off with a class 25 planet of 12 billion and economy bonus of 100+% hmmm seems population gets much less efficent in generating income with larger population. And economy bonuses have much less effect too.

apparently there's a capping effect on planet tax income that is like about 4 times PQ. Even with 300%+ economy bonus in planet details in my best planet and taxes high as I can get and 50% economy bonus in domestic stats I only get a few bcs more than 4 times my best planet's PQ. My planet was class 25 and I could only get at best like 110 all through the game. This capping effect seems to be different with the AIs.. the dregins had on average about 5-6 times PQ incomes on their planets and that's on all-bright AIs, huh? :(
