I'm just that kind of asshole

I don’t think I’ll make the talk show
circuit, I can’t imagine such folk would
“cotton” to my words
I can’t see myself side by side with jay
dave o’brien or that other guy

I’m not the guy you’d invite into
your living rooms
you might stone me or steal my boots
but you don’t want your kids to think
I’m cool
and you resonate with my outlaw ways
but only to the extent of action figures on
film
real life something altogether different

how do you explain me to the congregation
i stand in the space left or right of the middle surprisingly
frugal to one so blind to the lines
but rarely congruent with the body of christ
each supplicant commonly common
and the vibrations constant consistent regular
regular

it didn’t work out
I was looking for jesus
they had crystal overhead and real wine
kids drank as well and I wanted joy, but
cellophane is devious and they were all covered
vacuum fresh
hermetically sealed no leaks
before christ had a chance
to piss
I escaped with little but my shoes and soul
I bled

I have been told that I can only
be handled in small doses
at least that seems to be the
rhyme and reason of fit and I hold
no grudge
after all, I have daughters

I may dribble my words poetic or not
for a drink or sympathetic breast or even a
ride home
but I don’t think I’ll hang with Charlie rose or
claim my fame sitting at the table with
high talk and small ideas parading a repeating
pict-o-graph same start same finish over and over

I write for the assholes
friends of clay and outcast
some leather some baggy
some extreme but all digging deeper
than common sense would direct

for sickboy his angels wings black with soot
and tattooed inside and out
hanging just a step from the reaper every night
every morning
for cookie aka doc counting the take and planning the next
piece of business
for the nuts that live in my building, except for the
guy that pisses in the elevator
one eyed joe black mo mike the tattooed head
to them, I’m just johnny
the other nut sitting on the bench

so I don’t think I’ll be going on the talk show
curcuit but if you’ll buy the drink
I’ll tell you anything you want to know

I’m just that kind of asshole.

This would be the opposite of welding, wouldn't it?

The angles are supposed to add up but they don't and it makes it strangely beautiful, like you don't have to make sense of it, like you don't have to apply the makeup of comprehension.

I liked this. A lot.

If you were on "Nightline" I'd watch, provided "The Simpsons" was a rerun, hey - dont you write for the mixed up Mexican Jews of the world in their offices too?
