Censorship...

What the F***?

As you've all probably noticed by now, there has been a bad outbreak of censorship....The FCC has basically killed all humor(Well, the naughty humor anyway) on the airways. I'm tired of everything being censored....frankly, I don't believe it's even having an effect. Don't believe me?...then just visit any elementary playground and wait for 20 sec....they use words that even I flinch at. I've noticed for awhile that there are only a few channels that are left that you can see and hear the actual script....mainly cable channels....basic cable has so many cuts in a movie that you can't even enjoy it. I think that this censorship thing has gotten out of hand, these kids are going to hear these words eventually....probably from their parents and then from their peers at school. It just angers me that they have to butcher an entire show because of a few words or "racy" scenes. Now the even "bleep" the word "God" like it is an obscenity. Isn't this a form of limiting free speech?..... I mean trying to protect kids from the real world isn't really a good thing.... when they go out there they're in for a big surprise.....There's violence, sex, drugs, bad words and much more out there that would confuse and terrify an unprepared child....so I say let the TV explain it to them so they know what to expect. I learned never to trust people with my stuff or let them give me any special "foods" from watching TV....why not the next generation? Also, if you don't like what you're watching you can always change the channel or turn it off...? I believe a few bitchy mothers have just gone off the deep end and want to protect their "precious babies" from harsh language....as in "South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut" the mothers go to war with Canada because of the harsh language of a movie and also a quote from the movie-

"Horrible violence on TV is okay, as long as there are no dirty words"(That's the jist of it anyway)

So, that's my little rant for now.....hope you liked it,

They've done that for a long time. I always found it ironic that in the word "Goddamn" the part they bleeped was "God." They also tend to bleep "Jesus" and "Christ."

It's an old blasphemy thing -- but still terribly ironic.

Similar to Goddamn is asshole; they bleep the "hole", but not "ass".

It's funny, I was just thinking about this the other day when I was watching the music video for "45" by Shinedown, which apparently has required a name change because "45" is too "something", it sure isn't racy. The original lyrics are "And I'm starin' down the barrel of a 45", before the censor sluts came in. Result: "And I'm starin' down the ****** of a *****5". I don't know if there is some hidden message in "barrel" and "forty", but it sounded terrible. It watched it on MTV2, no less, home of Spring Break and Real World!!!

Just tonight I was watching "Blazing Saddles", and they cut out "bastard" and "ass", but that's to be expected, moreso than "barrel" and "forty". Then my dad told me that they cut out farting noises DURING THE FARTING SCENE! I wonder what they did during the 'Excuse me while I whip this out" part.

THEN, there's the whole "Let's Get Retarded" song by Black Eyed Peas, which has been butchered to "Let's Get It Started". The whole song is ruined. That was the whole humor quality of the song, singing about getting retarded, it made it racy and cutting edge. But no, the PC crowd thought that was too racy for mentioning the word retarded.

Censorship sluts.

Yeah, it really doesn't have an effect anyways. Little kids can pick it up from their parents or even their siblings. So why the need to bleep it out??? Maybe people don't enjoy hearing some of those words. I dunno, just a thought.

I agree with you in theory (censorship = bad), except the thing is, I don't really want to hear all that crap on TV. I don't want to watch violence, either, but somehow that's easier to screen. You can be watching what seems like just a drama and then a bunch of swear words spill out. Would seem to make more sense to not try to air those movies. But it's all about the money--er, ratings, I mean....

This reminds me of something the directors of "Friends" said in their commentary on an episode: They used the word "penis" in an early episode and then later weren't allowed to. They called it the "penis embargo." But a few years on down, the rules were relaxed, and they could use it again. There's a lot of fluctuation in what's allowed and what's not.

That's kinda dumb. First they let them use the word then they don't then they do agian. What's up with that.

At least you don't watch anime.

Language that people use on a daily basis....CUT!
Parts of the body that half the people have and the other half want to see...CUT!
Gay people with characters that are deeper than the tripe on "Will & Grace"....CUT!
People's insides being blown/sworded out...CUT! (That pun was intended)

I swear, I have to bootleg half the stuff I watch just to see the original script.

The funniest one on this was some years back, when they edited the word "joint" out of Tom Petty's "You Don't Know How it Feels", AFTER showing the video for "Maryjane's Last Dance, a whole fricking ODE to marijuana...lol...gosh, are these guys clueless sometimes."

"last dance with Maryjane"?? An ode to pot???? I thought it was about a necropheliac who had the hots for Kim Basinger.
This subject is one of my favorite things to despise about the religious right.
I had a woman make a smart ass comment to me about my shirt while travelling one day.
It is from the Colourbox, (a club in Seattle) that says on the back "Fuck Art, Let;s Mosh".
I guess I could have told her "Nice pants, how many polyesters died for those F*ckers?"
BTW I can't wear this shirt on post due to its "Obscene words".
Give me a $@%$ break people!

SSG: I have to say, if I saw you at the commissary and you were wearing that shirt, I would be a bit . . . ummm . . . bothered. One of my kids reads, and he is dying to expand his vocabulary.

If you ever watch anime on any channel on television, most likely it's been cut down to "fit censorship" crap.

I understand both sides of the arguement, and I really don't have a definitive opinion, except I already know the words they bleep, and I usually sing them with the song anyway.

That's life, I guess.

Peace,

Why would you watch anime on TV anyway? It's dubbed...*shudder* dubbing is even worse than ordinary censorship, because at least when swears are censored you know there's some asshole who would actually be offended if they hadn't.
