Problems with GalCiv

After updating the game to the 1.X version (All files) when I go to start a game, it gets to about 87% loaded/created and dumps back to the desktop. I'm running Windows XP Pro on an Athlon 1800+ with 512mb ram, ATI Radeon 8500LE with updated drivers, all patchs from MS.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Email me your debug.err and I can tell ya. ;) It'll be in your GalCiv directory.

I am having the same problem. Unfortunately, I just removed everything, and so don't have my debug.err file. FWIW I am using Windows XP and updated from the beta (though now I will have a fresh install...)

Without the debug.err I can't tell you anything.

You really should't be trying to update from a beta I'm afraid. Especially if you're not using the new SDCentral.

I am using the newest (until 10 minutes ago) SDCentral. I also asked earlier in the Chat whether I should let it update over the beta, or do a fresh install, and the concensus was to let it update...

I did update from the Beta, but I am using the new SDCentral. I'm running Windows XP Professional with SP1, 1 version behind on the catalyst drivers from ATI.

I am also using an ATI card with the latest catalyst drivers, but more and more this seems like a problem that comes from upgrading over the beta. You didn't, by chance (and I am pretty sure this has nothing to do with it), click on the Metaverse button from the games main menu before trying to start any games? Again, this probably has nothing to do with it, I am just trying to weed out the differences in what we've done to help find the similar cause.

Yes I did, and just took a look at what was listed, closed it down and tried to start a new game.

I just did a fresh install, and it will start a new game. Although the multimedia will not install from the archive I made of it, and I will have to download it again!!! :notsure:

Should be fine. That's what I did today, played while multimedia was downloading.

But first thing, before you reboot, check your c:\ to make sure the SDCentral install didn't do something bad. We're having reports that the SDCentral .99 install deleted files in the root directory beyond its own.

Thanks Brad. I;ve already rebooted since my last SDCentral Upgrade. I've been running it for a while now, and the auto-updates seem to work without a problem. I appreciate the warning, though. Will there be any problems for me as the multimedia files install if I am playing when it happens?

Good to hear David. Yea, going through this beta process has been a bit painful. SDCentral is fantasticaly advanced technologically but that also means it's very bleeding edge.

The UI front end of it is just the start of it, it's the entire advanced infastructure behind it. I mean, you have a near AOL like system in terms of technology put together into a tight program.
