I would like to hear players opinions about this game

Hi there,

Been reading this forum as some reviews. After the MOO 3 disaster i have been looking for a space strategy game. This one looks nice :)

I cant seem to find much dismay or complaints so either the mods delete every thread about it or whew :) is it a good game worth buying?

Hows the ai? I really like to hear from the players instead of some reviews which may be biassed.

Thank you for your time :) and i hope to hear positive remarks hehe

I don't think the mods delete any threads... which is why theres so much to read through here!!! ;p

There are lots of game reviews around the net. They usually give GalCiv anywhere from 75% - 90% so I would say that's a pretty good sign.

I love the game! LOL I'm sure many others will post the same here for you.

THE BEST part of this game however is that the developers (creators of the game) come to these forums and not just listen to complaints and suggestions, but they act on them!

Many incremental updates to the game have been provided. Each update being not just a bug fix, but an improvement of some kind. The AI continues to be tweaked, improved, and is one of the best in any game ever! Currently the game is at a very stable and nearly bug free version 1.02 with the designers working on a version 1.03 (check the fornt of the site)

This is a great space strategy game that you are sure to enjoy! :D

If you have any doubts do what I did - watch the website for a week or two. Watch as nearly daily updates to the front of the site are posted. Read as the developers post in and respond to the forums. See what others have to say about the actual game and I'm sure you will be more than happy to spend your money on this fantastic game! LOL

Doo-doo, IF you like TB strategy games, then you MUST buy this one. You will NOT find a better 4X game anywhere else. This forum has many threads about praising the devs. I would say 99,5% of the buyers is extremely happy about the game and 100% of the buyers is completely shocked by the devotion of the devs in supporting the game. 1.02 version just released, that's within THREE WEEKS after the release we have seen several patches to make the game even better. An expansion pack is expected to be in June, and even that will be FREE! Brad c.s. is working on version 1.03 currently. So, YES, mate, buy the game, you will NOT regret it! :)

I was disappointed with MOO3 too.

Galactic Civilizations is a great game. It is not the Civs or the MOOs but has roots in both. It is it's own game with it's own strategies. If you liked those games this is a must get.

It is one of those games that just when you think you've had enough 3 hours later you are still playing. When you finish a game and say time for dinner you start a new game and don't stop till breakfast.

Grab this one, you won't regret it.

My experience so far:

MOO3 was horrible. It was like the new Star Wars movies compared to the old ones. It was a great idea, but it just didn't fit the mystique of the original (and shouldn't have wore the name) - Plus too many 'unusual' add-ons that took away from gameplay.

GalCiv is much more appealing. It reminds me of an old game that some may recall (I know they keep making new versions of the game but they're all the same as the original, aside from better graphics) - Warlords. This has the grid type movement, single unit combat (no space combat screen like in MOO2), and a few surprises here and there. Only complaint is space combat.

Here's where GalCiv fits in my book, compared to other games anywhere near its genre:

1) Civilization (any version)
2) Master of Orion II

3) Galactic Civilizations
4) Imperium Galactica II (TBS turned RTS)
5) Alpha Centauri
6) Warlords (II or later)

Coffee Coaster) MOO3

I am still mostly unsatisfied, as I want a SPACE TBS - something a little evolved from MOO2.

I like the game too. The AI is intelligent on every level and the game is exiting and has a lot of humour. Also the devs really listen to complaints about the game and try to make it a great experience for the gamers. As always the game has some bugs and needs some tweaks, but overall it is a nice game.

If you want my opinion: there is actually only one thing i can say. The game is just, plain fun.

You can always wait for the demo, but if i were you: next time you walk into a store and see the tasty Galciv box. Just grab one.

I previously purchases MOO3 and I then returned it the next day. Talk about a dissapointment. I was really bummed out for a while until I discovered Galactic Civilizations. I was like, well, it can't be any worse than MOO3. So I gave it a try and invested my $40.

After the first time I played, I was hooked. The game was everything I wanted it to be and more. The graphics are great for its genre, the gameplay is intriguing, and the enemy AI is great.

The major thing I liked about the game is that YOU control your empire. Even though you have governors, YOU tell them what to do. Unlike MOO3, where I found myself just pressing the "Next Turn" button the whole time while the computer did everything for me.

This game is a definite must-have and I higly recommend it. Don't worry, you can't go wrong with purchasing this game.

Not much to add to other people's opinions... GalCiv is awesome, buy it without any fear. You won't regret it.

One suggestion: if you don't find it in a store, buy it online and download it. That's what I did - I live in Portugal (that's Europe :) )and the game isn't out here yet, but I had it a couple of days after release. Downloading 450 MB is nothing these days - I initiated the download, went to work, and when I returned home, I had a fantastic game waiting for me. :d

Its a great single player game. One of the best TB strat games ever made IMO, right up there with MOO1/2, MoM and Civ1/2.

I've been EXTREMELY disappointed with two games in the past year, Moo3 and Heroes of Might and Magic IV.

Moo2 is probably the game I have played more than any other. I took off early from work to buy it on release day, enjoyed the manual fiction... played it a weekend... tried to convince myself it was kind of fun after a few days..... had a little bit of fun playing it... realized it was incredibly buggy and not challenging, and have shelved it hoping for a patch that will make it good.

I'm starting to think that's right up there with hoping an old girlfriend sees the error of her ways and comes back begging.

Galciv is fun. It's not perfect... the AI does goofy stuff on high difficulty like send fleets of undefended transports near me... but it's fun. I'd say it's an 8 out of 10 with the potential for legendary status given the continuing updates to it. My main complaint is combat -- the way the reviews talked about combat made me delay buying the game a good week. To be honest, the combat model is still pretty fun even though it's basic... my problem is you can't tell what happening. My stack of 25 ships fights there 25 ships (and you can't always read how many they have) and my stack gets smaller... I can't always tell which ships I lost.

All the game really needs is a combat detail like Warlords or Age of Wonders has, where you see where the damage is going.... there's room for it on the sidescreens.

Buy Galciv, you won't regret it.

Amazing game!
If you like Civ (any of 'em :D )MOO2,SMAC you'll like this one.
The battles are kinda lame, but what makes this game stand out among others is the almost total control of your empire, and the diplomatic intrigue. The AI civs arent all cookie cutter molds, all seem to be different, and keep me on my toes.Mix that up with some crazy events that can change everything instantly, and you've got a winner.
