MY Beliefs...

Just to open up a bit...

I was asked today by a Minister I was talking to about what I would classify my beliefs as. My first answer of course was a joke... "The right ones!" I said that laughing and in a joking enough manner that he didn't take any offense luckly.

I then went on to explain that I believe in living a good life... doing right to others... and trying to find happiness for yourself and others whenever possible, but that I didn't know what I would classify myself as because I'm not a church goer, don't much look into religions. He then of course invited me to stop by his church sometime to hear a sermon by him, and I'm sure sometime I'll stop by and do so.

But this got me thinking really. I was never raised to be of any faith. As a kid my parents didn't go to church, but never kept me from going with friends. I think that was my parents way of letting me discover my own faith and not forcing any of their faithed views onto me. Ethical teaching by my parents I believe, and I'm mighty thankful they raised me this way, and let me make that choice on my own.

I do believe in a higher power. Though I don't believe it has to be an entity watching over us. For all I know God IS the human race. It could be that each and everyone of us makes up God and this life is his own living through us.

Though, I believe mainly in the good life, in spreading all the happiness I can, and being good to others. I believe that if you lead a good life in your heart and soul, things will be ok for you. Short and simple eh?!

To each his own. Have your own beliefs as you wish, this is just my own view of things. =)

I was surprised recently when I had the following conversation with a 5 year old:

I know who God is
Really Perita. How do you know who God is?
I heard people talking about him.
Oh right. Who is God then?
He's the voice inside your head who tells you what to do and what not do.

Kids can be so insightful because they can cut through adult bullshit. This is because they haven't learned adult bullshit yet and take things on face value. That also means they are naive of course, but naivety has a lot of advantages and we'd do well to listen to the naive more often.

i don't exactly have many beliefs anymore. i grew up in a religious household: my father was a pastor and my mom loves going to church. since i realized that my lesbianism would not be accepted in society at the age of 14, i've been going to church less and less. i finally just did not want to go to church when my dad left us when i was 16. my beliefs remain that my happiness is the key to having a good life. i want to be able to be happy with someone else. i haven't figured out why i'm on this earth but i know that i must be happy first to figure it out. maybe the key to being happy is love.

No, annie, love is not the key to happiness. At least not the physical kind of love you are apparently seeking to find.

The key to happiness is truly within; you need to reach a point where you can wake up, look at the mirror and be happy and content with the person you see within. Love can only grow in a real and meaningful way once you find happiness beforehand. Otherwise, all the relationships, all the possessions in the world will be meaningless.

I do hope that one day you will find happiness AND love.

Nice how kids can make it just that simple isn't it? I also remember just how much easier things were for me when I was a kid....

Well if ya figure out why your on this earth let us know because that might help us figure out what we're here for also, cuz I for one havn't the foggiest clue why I'm here!

I somewhat agree with Gideon. I do believe a big part of being happy is being happy with yourself. Though I do believe love can bring hapiness as well just a "different" sort...... I know that makes no sense but I can't really describe it better....
