Can you rejoin the United Planets if you leave them?

Okay, I got my empire rolling. I am taking over star systems like crazy as I am the most powerful civ. But as the game was still early along, I dropped out of the United Planets because after a vote they agreed to trade 10 technologies, which I voted against, so I bolted.

Now I have the most influence in the galaxy, but Im' not a member. Is it possible to get back in?

What would be cool is if you could re-enter each time you meet a new major race, but with a severe loss in influence that comes back slowly over time.

Maybe -

"Now that we have meet the %ss, Should we ask them to sponsor us in rejoining the UP?"

If you agree half your influence goes to the %s (whoever they may be

for the next UP vote... oh and it doesn't improve your relationship with them it just gets your butt back in the door.

Why?

To eliminate meeting the first race and facing a crippling UP resolution and your only option is to drop out of the UP and lose trade for the rest of the game

...then again maybe I totally am missing how this all works with the UP (seeing as I have yet the courage to ever quit them during a game)

I think you are doomed to sit outside.

Don't leave the UP. Now you can have 0 trade routes

You can still trade with non-UP races. Like the minors. And I-League.
