Easy to find out, just pick the "evil" option on two or three moral events (or just one, if the option is really evil).

Personally, I have a hard time distinguishing the icons in evil-mode. The dark red against the dark brownish background is hard on my eyes. 'Course the blinding white of good causes me to put on my shades ( ), so I tend to stick to neutrality (which isn't good enough for a Pure Good race).

When your empire changes to evil, it really looks like you're in hell. Even the music changes, to complete the fest with the new red icon and borders.

One of the things I like most about turning evil is that really surly looking robot you get.
