Does the AI ever offer to trade technology. The only contact I have ever had, occurs when an empire is about to fold or is scared of you in this case they will offer you money in tribute. Also,it wouldn't it be great if the AI offered a counter proposal when you try and negotiate a deal (like CIV3 does).

They'll offer to trade technology with you sometimes. I'd imagine difficulty level would also play a factor in how often the AI is willing to trade for tech.

I have had the AI offer me techs, and the exchange is *nearly always* in my favor, in the immediate term. That is, the exchange is one that the AI would never accept if I presented it, and would be overall good. Except, well, I usually don't want to give the AI dreadnoughts or battleships. :)

Yes it does. I just finished my first game and one of the minor races offered a tech-for-tech deal.

I also was able to trade technology with major races when I took the initiative. I would like a better indication of what the AI considers acceptable trades. The "What do you want for ..."/"What do you give for ..." options in Civ3 are nice. Hopefully I'll get the hang of it after a few more games.

At Fool level, the only thing the AI ever offered me was money (since I tended to have the biggest military at that level). At sub-normal, the AI would periodically offer tech trades, although the tech the wanted from me was usually weapons-based (hey, if they want 1D Phasing, they can have it... I've already got 3D!).
