Is there any way to break alliances between 2 other civs?

I'm in a game where the 3 other civs and I are all allied with each other. I'm am now ready to conquer but as soon as I attack I will lose the 3300 BC a month I get from my trade routes and I will go bankrupt. So is there a way to sabotage an alliance between 2 powers?

Yes, trade routes disappear when you go to war with a race. And if they are allied with others, they go to war with you as well, thus losing those trade routes. Funny how other races get upset when you attack them or their allies.

At any rate, even if you sabotaged the relationship you had with the race you wish to attack, that doesn't mean the other allied races will break their alliances, and you still have the same problem, war with one means war with all, trade goes down the tubes.

I think there is something good to be said that this kind of check and balance is built into the A.I.

However, more in the context in which your speaking, it would be interesting to be able to play ends against the middle with two or more other civs, stir things up, get them pointing fingers at each other and turning on themselves.

It's stuff like this that makes me wish that the Espionage system was brought up to par with the rest of the excellent game mechanics.

well, actually you MAY be able to get them to attack their partenr if you give them enough stuff... try it in diplomacy.

I think the initial request is pretty reasonable; Id like to be able to ask one civ to break an alliance with another, without having it go to war- it should be fairly expensive though, or threatening..
