STATUS REPORT: March 26th early morning

Just a quick status report of where things stand.

Things seem to be going relatively smoothly overall. We're getting an immense IMMENSE amount of downloads. The main server has a capacity of 30 megabits which if anyone here is into network administration can tell you, that's a LOT of bandwidth. It's being fully used right now as the 1000 or so beta testers and another 1000 or so Drengin.net beta testers download the final game at the asme time.

The biggest issue we've run into is that over the course of the last few months we've gone through a lot of builds of Stardock Central and so those users who have been with us the longest have unfortunately suffered a little bit due to problems with remnants of old builds and XML files floating around. We are working to resolve that.

For users who have just bought the game directly, things are going very smooth with two caveats:

(1) A few people have reported that the game is reporting the wrong amount downloaded. I.e. like it will say 98MB downloaded out of 84MB. We don't have an answer for that (Stardock's developemtn team is mostly in Eastern USA and UK and I'm all that remains up at 2am right now :) ). We should have that resolved by tomorrow morning.

(2) Some people downloading from overseas are getting time-outs. Naturally, SDCentral doesn't report these as time outs but rather some generic error in downloading. If you are downloading and you see that, just hit install again and it will continue where it left off. Just bear in mind that right now we're peaking in download bandwidth. I will be looking at increasing bandwidth tomorrow further. I can report that our UK beta team has successfully downloaded all of GalCiv this evening on their cable modems.

Regarding updates:
We will be reading through the message boards and reading your ideas, suggestions, and any bug reports you have. If we think we ahve a solution or a tweak, we will in teh near term provide you with a link to download a stand alone GalCiv. We don't want to mess with updating GalCiv on the network until the initial rush is over. But we are interested in hearing your thoughts and any issues you might have and then provide timely updates.

If you are confused about how Stardock Central works, you can view this HTML: http://www.galciv.com/sdgc

Hope this helps. Let us know how we can help you get the most out of Galactic Civilizations.

have you bought drengin? If not make sure this is empty and update. If at some previous stage you put you galciv info in this box and registered then the game is failing trying to to validate your DRENGIN account (which may be because you don't ahve one). Also try using the 'tools-> look up serial number' option so that is will email you what is already registered to your email address.

the serial # box in drengin.net is clear. i press update and it says "You must enter all the required information to continue"

i have only entered my serial # in the gal civ section and it will not register. i have tried countless time and nothing but errors.

i wish i hadnt bought it online now :notsure:

We'll have an upgrade path shortly.

Mark, were you able to get your serial to work then?

Mark I had the same problem as you and here is what I did to make it work. I'm not sure if there's some redundant steps I took, but here it is anyway.

I used the menu Tools and selected Register Products.
I copied and pasted the serial # under the Stardock tab.
I copied and pasted the serial # under the Drengin.net tab.
I clicked the OK button and came back under the Drengin.net tab in the main menu.
I pressed F5 and Galactic Civilizations along with all the other things related to it appeared on the list ready to be downloaded.
I started clicking the install button for the game and the other things that come with it and it started installing.

I'm not sure if you have to copy the serial number under Stardock tab and it seems you don't have to click the register or update buttons at all. Anyway this worked for me and I hope it will work for you too.

I think the SDC sux and should be optional.
It would be ok if I were still on dialup, but im not!
The found the instructions not very clear and very convoluted.

For those of you who are having trouble getting it to work, try doing the following:

1: open SDC and login
2: click on tools>register products
3: click on the Drengin.net tab
4: select Galactic Civilizations in the Application tab
5: make sure your account info is correct
6: cut/paste your Serial number into the box and click Update

then when you are in software mode of SDC and you click on the Drengin.net tab you will see Galactic Civilizations.

Hope this helps.

ps - if you cannot get SDC (Stardock Central) to work, try logging into galciv.net and creating the account there, then logging in thru the SDC application.
