STATUS REPORT: March 26th early morning
from
Stardock Forums
Just a quick status report of where things stand.
Things seem to be going relatively smoothly overall. We're getting an immense IMMENSE amount of downloads. The main server has a capacity of 30 megabits which if anyone here is into network administration can tell you, that's a LOT of bandwidth. It's being fully used right now as the 1000 or so beta testers and another 1000 or so Drengin.net beta testers download the final game at the asme time.
The biggest issue we've run into is that over the course of the last few months we've gone through a lot of builds of Stardock Central and so those users who have been with us the longest have unfortunately suffered a little bit due to problems with remnants of old builds and XML files floating around. We are working to resolve that.
For users who have just bought the game directly, things are going very smooth with two caveats:
(1) A few people have reported that the game is reporting the wrong amount downloaded. I.e. like it will say 98MB downloaded out of 84MB. We don't have an answer for that (Stardock's developemtn team is mostly in Eastern USA and UK and I'm all that remains up at 2am right now
). We should have that resolved by tomorrow morning.
(2) Some people downloading from overseas are getting time-outs. Naturally, SDCentral doesn't report these as time outs but rather some generic error in downloading. If you are downloading and you see that, just hit install again and it will continue where it left off. Just bear in mind that right now we're peaking in download bandwidth. I will be looking at increasing bandwidth tomorrow further. I can report that our UK beta team has successfully downloaded all of GalCiv this evening on their cable modems.
Regarding updates:
We will be reading through the message boards and reading your ideas, suggestions, and any bug reports you have. If we think we ahve a solution or a tweak, we will in teh near term provide you with a link to download a stand alone GalCiv. We don't want to mess with updating GalCiv on the network until the initial rush is over. But we are interested in hearing your thoughts and any issues you might have and then provide timely updates.
If you are confused about how Stardock Central works, you can view this HTML: http://www.galciv.com/sdgc
Hope this helps. Let us know how we can help you get the most out of Galactic Civilizations.
