Governors

What's the best way to setup the governors to use 'em? I wind up late game saying "I wish I set some up, this sucks!" but I never know what to do with 'em anyway till late in the game.

It would be easier to set it up early on, so I could at least assign them to each planet as I gain them...

So what do you guys find yo udo with them?

Well, I've broken my planets down into High Quality and Low Quality planets. The Low Quality (< 18) get soil and hab enchancement right away. The others build manufacturing plants and research labs first. I've seen some posts of people who specialized planets into ship building or research planets (one builds ship foundry, etc. and the other builds all research buidlings). To be honest, since you can't adjust sliders by planet, I don't see how you can really specialize that much or what the advantage would be. Maybe if there were more buildings it would make more sense . . .

Up to this point, I've really only been using two governors. A "high quality" for PQ >=20 and a "low quality" for all others. The low builds only what I think every colony needs, while the high gets a number of other, more expensive upgrades. Really great planets (30 or higher) I tend to micro-manage, using them mostly for production of wonders and trade goods.

I'm not sure how I'll manage the governors as I gain more experience. One of the biggest steps for me in the learning curve right now is figuring out which improvements are "worth it" to build where.

True.
I just tend to build everything, and build according to what i need. if I'm losing money, I'll build more economic structures... if I need the planet to produce faster, I build factories... but that's about it.
I always build my trade goods and galactic wonders on Earth though.
