1.02Z BETA

1.02Z BETA

I haven't put up a Beta using the new system before but if you would like to try out 1.02Z here's how you do it:

In SDCentral go to settings and have it show pre-release versions. Note that this is a beta in many ways. It worked here fine on my home machine for what it's worth. ;)

+ Efficiency Production Bonuses get penalized if they are > 3X the planet quality.
+ Sector Influence is now weighted between the distance of the nearest starbase and the distance of the nearest star.
+ Colonies on planets

Here's Brad's post about it from comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.strategic:

One thing that's tough is for the AI to figure out when a threat it directed
at them. Early on, this was much more sensitive and the AI would
preemptively attack you simply because you were moving ships through its
space.

Plus there's the "stuff" I turned off entirely simply because the AI is
supposed to play like a human but also has to be fun. I used to have the AI
go much more after transports. It would build swarms of fast ships that
would go around any defense to get at non-stacked transports. Then I'd also
have the AI come out of orbit, zing an unprotected ship and then go back in
orbit. Also used to have it take damaged ships and send them home to replace
with stronger ships.

Nope. Can't see it either. I know its sacrelige, but I think Brad should take an afternoon, smack around the people who 'wrote' SDCentral, and rewrite it so it works. Should only take him an hour or two at most. :)

Yes, I'm joking...I've just had terrible luck with SDC.

The ^P thing doesn't work, either.

Maybe I'm wrong, but... It seems that I can download something using an older version of Stardock (.99d RC5). The beta changelog doesn't show up in the newer version. I'm currently downloading some 85MB update to GalCivs. Whether this is the beta update, or I just messed up Stardock by going back to an older version, I'm not sure just yet.

And being on a 56K modem, it may be a while before I know. =)

Still doesn't work for me.... Maybe you DO have to have Drengin purchased...

Brad: why are only the arceans improved with these new tactics? Is it also going to happen for the other races?

Hold on a second here. Does Frogboy = Brad Wardell?

Installed the beta YTD but reverted back to v.049 due to problem with saved game, after loading my current game all my planets have 0 or 1 morale.

Went back to the previous release (0.49) and all ok again.

Yes, it's in his profile if you want to check for yourself :)

I like his obvious Tolkien influence. Can we have a Feanor system?

THREE THINGS:

1 Can someone make the political parties: Universalists and Industrialists as described in the manual? Though i think the universalists bonuses should be 5s not 10s right?

and upload it to the library?

2 Is the Trade Embargo feature coming back into the game as listed in the manual?

3 The history summary feature you were originally working on that would give you dates and when you went
to war, took or colonized a planet, lost a planet, first
built a certain tech or wonder or trade good...is that
coming back? It was great feature in Civ 1. Nice to
print out when the game ended.

Okay, I checked with IT on this. With SDC's secure system, betas only work for those who have the "network".

I.e. if you have Object Desktop, you can get betas of WindowBlinds. Similarly, if you have Drengin.net, you can get betas of GalCiv.

When I asked about making a special case for GalCiv, well, when I regain concsciousness I came up with an alternative. Let people upgrade to Drengin.net and provide people here with a $10 discount (so it's only 20 bucks and you're getting GalCiv + TCM + LWNinja + Stellar Frontier + whatever we add for the next 18 months).

Here's a thread that talks about it in detail:

I'm not sure I understand. What is Drengin.net? Isn't that what I use in Stardock Central to download updates to GalCiv? I haven't paid for anything more than GalCiv. And is The Corporate Machine just an update of Entrepreneur? I have that and the bonus cards (though I probably don't have them anymore).

Jeff George, Just above "Forum" on this page, you will see "Drengin.net". Click on it and you'll get all the info you want.

Hey Brad: I would love to get Drengin, but I live in Germany and have no credit card. Any other way for me to pay? BTW, does anyone know the current US Dollar -> Euro course?

Freya,

Not with Stardock Central. The only spot that I see Drengin.net is in the software area, where GalCiv updates are downloaded. I will try to find more references to it.

Oh, kudos to the possibility of getting the Political Machine as part of the deal!! I'm glad I went the way of the Drengin.net from the git-go.

Dearmad: Very regularly.

When we can do the internal QA efficicently, we'll put them out directly on SDC.

But sometimes changes are dramatic enough that they need to go to an external group first.

After all, that slider bug with the trade screen was a pretty serious bug that got past us. That was kind of a turning point.

Slick marketing move... There's so much hype right now that you can pay to be a alpha/beta tester. :)

'Hey Brad: I would love to get Drengin, but I live in Germany and have no credit card.'

They do have other options, but last I checked, any cheques or money orders would have to be drafted in US dollars.

There is/was be a page with an order form for mail orders on Stardock.com somewhere, but given that it predates Drengin.net you'll probably have to write in the product number and price yourself when you fill it out.

Thanks for the info..... Well, maybe I get a friend to pay with his Visa.... Money orders are a bit of a hazzle....

Pay to be a betatester, download the full versions of Lightweight Ninja, Stellar Frontier, the Corporate Machine, get the Political Machine when it comes out...get 18 months of Drengin. :)

The $20 pays for itself with the games available right now.
