Tony,

See the thread titled "Trap 5 while changing tech research projects.". It is caused by a problem with the tech file. While I have been
able to edit some of the problem away there are corruptions in the file that I can't edit out. I am hoping that the developers can
provide with a corrected copy of GCTech.TECH quickly.

Cheers,
Jack

What kind of corruptions?

Cari,

I started this in the thread "Trap 5 while changing tech research projects.". The first time I clicked on the "Battleship2" tech I got the
trap 5. In examining the tech file I discovered that the "battleship2" tech did not have a keyword that those above it had called
"overview", so I tried to add it (with Notepad). I got a message from Notepad that it could not continue due to lack of memory
so I saved it, reloaded the file into Notepad, and completed the entry. I tried the game with the new copy and it got passed "Battleship2"
to "2DPhasing" and crashed with a trap 5 again. I checked this tech and found that it was aslo missing this keyword, so I tried to add it,
and got the message again from Notepad that it was out of memory. So I saved what I had done and reloaded it into Notepad and completed
the addition of the keyword, saved it, and tried it again. This time I got the "blue pattern with white dots screen of death". I have checked
the rest of the keywords and find that these techs also are missing the overview keyword "number 29", "galactic understanding", and
"4d phylosophy".

So are there really three problems here? 1). missing keyword "overview" in the tech file, 2). Something strange about the file that it messes
up Notepad when we try to edit it, 3) Galciv can't tolerate a missing keyword (instead of putting something in the debug file and skipping
the tech, maybe). And maybe, is there a problem with galciv when it reads the tech file that it does not ensure that the data it reads does
not exceed the buffer it is putting it into (could this be the "... screen of death"s I have been getting?

Cheers,
Jack
