How do I get my ships repaired?

I think it takes to long for a ship to ger back to full hitpoints after it's been damaged but maybe I'm missing something.
Is there any way to get your ships repaired faster, except from parking them in the same sector as a starbase with the repair upgrades or researching +repair improvements?
Does putting them in a solar system help?

I don't think so, but I wish it did. I thought it would be cool to be able to have a ship's repair rate increased whil it is parked in orbit -- especially in a system with a shipyard or starship foundry.

On the other hand, I can see where that sort of thing might easily lend itself to cheesy abuse.

Za01phod,

Not that I know of. Replenishment of HP's is tied directly to your repair rate bonus; outside of increasing this through research and the SB repair module, I have not encountered any other methods in the game.

Thanks for your answers.
It does seem odd though that in many instances it takes longer for a unit to be repaired than to build a new one. Imagine almost wrecking your car and than having to wait nearly five years before it is repaired. I would like to see the repair rate to be increased.

I really thought that it repaired quicker when in orbit. But actually I am not so sure about that.

Out of interest, what is the bonus from the SB repair module? It says 1%, but it seems a lot higher than this. Is it more like 100%?

My impression is that repairs are faster in orbit, but I have no proof.

Ships do repair a great deal faster in orbit, or at least they do at the beginning of the game.

Has anyone tested the whole repair-in-orbit vs repair-next-to-planet? I'll do a test tonight if no one has actually checked. Please don't post guesses, I'm looking for facts.

#6 MoJojoUK,

I, too, have noticed the SB Repair module is better than 1%. In this case, it appears to be much like a Speed increase: although expressed as a "+1%", it actually is +1 HP/+1 MP.

I tested this earlier with a battleaxe at 30 hp of 40 max. When it was sitting next to the planet in several turns no hp were regained. When I sent the ship into orbit it gained 2-3 hp per turn until fully healed.

Thanks Norin.
So ships ONLY heal if they are in orbit on a planet (unless affected by a SB). Ouch.

No they heal out of orbit, its just that they heal at a slower rate, especially at the start of the game when you have no repair bonuses yet.

I am playing 1.02 and I went into debt just once and many many turns ago. It seems that every thin is in need of repair, even recently launched ships and constructors.

Will the SB repair module work on the SB?

Does the SB attack bonuses also apply to the SB?
