sometimes you just have to want to
give a shit
about anything
it can be an effort more akin to throwing
heavy boulders in mud
but there are some things that demand it
that jump up and slap you around
piss in your face or leave dog shit in your
yard
the rain soaked kid huddled under the awing
of a hamburger stand, you know it’s a sad story
we can walk away, but make it a little rain soaked kitten
then it matters, hell, for some it’s an outrage
it’s a tragedy when graves of 10,000 or more
echo off of multiple screens at Red’s off chapin st.
but between the drinks and bullshit nothing gets done
mostly just masturbating our lips and trying to kill
the nameless pain
tossing a quarter into the Save the Children jar and
and making the sign of the cross does the same
but somewhere deep inside beyond the reach of
bourbon or drugs, even in the darkest of us lives the
possibility of good, it’s the only thing left that makes
us human
