I know the AI doesn't cheat, but.....

I have a problem for which I have no logical explanation. Recently, the Arceans had "Battleship Technology" up in their trade window. Okay, fine, I didn't think much of it at the time- I was at war with them, and I knew I wasn't getting it.

Then I noticed it in the trade windows of my allies as well....the ones who were at war with the Arceans. In theory, a trade is possible even then, BUT:

I had been keeping my techs completely parallel with my allies and they DID NOT have the neccessary pre-req technologies for Battleship construction! Nor did the Arceans! I was in contact with all five races, and every minor race I knew about (suppose it's possible I missed one somewhere, but pretty unlikely) also lacked the prerequisities. NO ONE had battle armor, space militarization, or interstellar tactics! And yet the technology to build capital ships was right there.

So uh....how's that happen? I'd love to skip building frigates and researching two relatively useless techs besides.

1. Events. Perhaps there is an event that that gives techs.

2. You. More likely you had Battle Armor and other prereqs, traded a technology higher in the tree (the one Battle Armor eventually led to, for example). Since they have this tech, it is traded around, and satisfies the prereqs for higher level techs.
