Corrupted Installation File

That probably means that the cd is bad. You should be able to download the game with your serial, though, and if you have a cd burner you can burn your galciv directory to the cd.

I had the same problem.

It's actually not a problem of the CD. I installed it just fine on other computers. There's something busted with my CD or HD (probably same with yours).

I worked around it by downloading StarDock Central and installing the game online. The serial number you have on your CD will work, so you can just download it without having to buy it again.

This is rediculous. I just brought the cd back and got a second GalCiv and got the exact same results. I have 4 computers with completely different setups.... hold on, it looks like it works on one of the computers, ironically my slower one. Well they should release any information they have on what might be causing this.

So much for playing on the P4 2400 with the 50" Plasma screen, I am back to the P4 550e with the 15" screen. This just wont do. What of the poor soul who only has one computer with a 56k modem? He has to download that huge file?

I will try to network the program onto my other comps. but if someone finds a work around perhaps you will post it.

OK, you can work around the corrupt file message by using a network to connect to the problem coputer. Just make the CD drive shared and click on the setup file. Now all you need is a network.

Strange ... I get this error when I try to install stardockcentral (rc1). Strangely enough, it happened after I uninstalled the buggy rc6 stardock and then tried to install rc1. Even stranger, now I can't install from the original rc5 install file EITHER.

*SIGH* - DLL hell issue, probably ... *grumble windows grumble*.

When is this problem going to be fixed. There seems to be no effort or response and this is a MAJOR issue. Luckily I have 3 computers, however, the only one it works on is the one that is not connected to the cable modem (and router).

MadMichael, I'm unclear as to exactly what you're expecting to see as a "fix" for this.

In every instance we've seen so far, it's either been a case of physically bad media or some combination of factors on the target machine that were interfering with the install.

Things to try: copying the setup.exe off the CD to the hard drive. Rebooting and ensuring that as many running processes as possible are closed (use task manager on 2k/xp). Ensuring that your TEMP directories have been scoured of leftover files from other installers.

If you contact [email protected] with your serial number, they can also send you a download link to be able to burn your own CD.

Considering that you are selling a product that won't install on many machines - I would expect that you would investigate why and correct your install problem.

I and my wife are very familiar with computers (my wife is a network specialist and one of my degrees is in computer science).

As for my machine - I am running 98SE. I am also familiar with removing all non essential to try to get programs to install. This did not correct the problem. There is no drive problems(they have been tested and they are working properly) and dropping all of the background programs helped it to install, however it will only play for about a 20-30 minutes, then it lockup the machine so something is still not write. (:(

We don't have any control over the quality of CDs that Gal Civ is printed on.  Stardock Central, however, we do have control over, and it has been continually improving.

You were obviously able to get the game to install; if you are still getting lockups, it's a different issue, probably related to your sound or video drivers. If you send me a dxdiag report, I may be able to help you.

This is unbelievable. I can't believe that a company that is trying to make money on video games is doing nothing about this problem. I tried installing the game and got the I/O error and so I took the game back and got another one. Now I have tried again and the same result. I do not have another computer to play it on so I cannot network two machines and I don't have a burner so I can't burn myself a new copy, What the hell am I supposed to do about this. The store I bought it at is not going to give me my money back and if the Stardock doesn't plan on doing anything about this problem I am just screwed.

Erik, You can use the CD key that you got with the CD to download Gal Civ from Stardock Central, and then archive the installation to use as a backup.  It sounds as if your CD drive is having a hard time reading Strategy First's disks.   

Senator...are you going to tell me that I have a problem on a CD or DVD drive on a brand new system fresh out of the box, that I already have installed 10 other games or programs on.....maybe your cd is buggy?

It's quite possible - at the price new systems are being sold, there's no real margin for testing.

It's also possible that the drive is working at one end of the official tolerances, and the CD is at the other - in other words it's a dependent incompatibility.
