choose the size of the text in the forum so i don't have to squint. and yes, some browsers let you make the text bigger but i don't want to switch back when i get to another site.

Since Frogboy's already mentioned that they don't intend to replace this forum with another type, I won't suggest that...

However, search and edit (as many have suggested) would be desirable. More so, to me, would be italics and boldface (should be easy to implement). I hate having to CAPITALIZE or *asterisk* words for emphasis.

An icon for threads that have one of your posts on it, so you know where you've been. Just a simple black dot superimposed over the existing icons would be fine. Heck, maybe there is one, what exactly do the message icons mean? The pin indicates a sticky, but there are stickys with text-lines and stickys on black pages, plus closed and open envelopes...

Lastly, as a lark, some new smilies! Maybe some GalCiv-oriented ones (Yor and Drengin smilies, anybody?).

Edit woudl be good but I think it shoudl be time limited. I.e. you can edit for the first 15 minutes after it's posted but not after that. I've seen it abused (in fact, editing was used in a...discussion on the MOO 3 forums not long ago to retroactively make the person I was talking to look more reasoned than the original post).

Pardon the nearly useless post. I agree about the time limit on posting. I would add it would be interesting to increase the time editing may be done (say... up to half an hour after post) for the higher ranked users. Responsible people get better rights.

My biggest gripe is that I can't tell which posts are "new" since my last visit. I can sorta tell when viewing them in SDC, but not on the web version.

Ability to search for people as well as by subject.

The current search is a great improvement though!

Forget using phpBB, there's nothing like the feeling of creating something as complex as a game or a bulletin board and seeing it used and enjoyed, even if it is easier. Some programmers just don't feel right unless they've toiled and challenged themselves, creating something that to most seems mundane, but to gearheads seems almost magical and wonderful. As far as any suggestions, maybe a form to track the threads you have posted in.

Ability to leave messages for other members via a simple click.

Threading and having replies be replies to specific messages would help a lot.

This completely flat-subject thing is soooo late 1970's BBS-style.

Oh, and remembering what you have read would be nice too.

stats on # of postings and average lenght of postings.

...and user-moderation of messages, something along the lines of what /. (slashdot) has? And have stats of that added to #48.

Though I myself don't think that we need stats... I mean, come on. Stats in the game alone is more than enough for me LOL

If you post a reply to a thread and then click the 'Go Back to Message Board' link, it takes you back to the very first page?? Isn't that just a bit silly? It reminds me of my Modem days when I had to watch the entire screen repaint every time I clicked a command. I guess the forum doesn't store any state information regarding which page you are on?
