The little images popup textes do not show in mozilla based browser. This is due to the "alt" tag beeing used for it, instead of the W3C way to use "title" for tooltips.

see here:

or here (for a simpe explanation of why):

Basic color-blind version? Just an option to toggle on/off that changes a few colors...

Akuen, I think you're absolutely correct. I mean this entire thread is a bit silly. We're just listing all the basic features that 90% of the forums out there already have. All of these things are obvious. If they really need us to suggest this type of stuff, it speaks to how out of touch they are with the benefits of typical forum software. My guess is that that is not the case, and this thread is probably meant to placate people's forum complaints more than anything else.

Anyway, I think you're right about their motivation. They'd rather stick with the minimalistic code they've written and feel comfortable with rather than use somebody else's stuff, even though it may be far more capable. If there were a steep learning curve or heavy setup cost, I could understand it, but those systems have everything we asked for and are so easy to use and install, that a lot of fairly non-technical people can put them on their home pages without much effort.

Alright, I think this horse is dead.

A more heirachical structure and many more discussion folders.

This is a pretty clean board, but a few more rules and/or eforcement regarding insensitive personal comments, obscene user names, etc.,would be nice, with the goal of limiting forum comments to a 'PG' rating. My 13 year old likes this game and also likes to check out this forum.

umm Actuarian about your 13 year old unless they are the most sensitive kid in the world a few bad words arnt going to do to them. When i was his/her age (2 years and 9 months ago) things like that didn't affect me i doupt they affect anyone of any age above 5. No offence Intended. :) I guess when i am a father though i might think differntly to. And heres a free tip: if you dont already check your computers cookies and temp files cause i doupt your 13 year old is as navie as you would beleve them to be. ;) once again no ofence intended

It has been said before, but I am just going to say it again: don't invent the wheel. If you really want to know what people want, just implement the same features PHP-BB has.

You don't have to use PHP-BB, but just look at it.

More sturcture - using PHP-BB or something similiar.

With galciv, you created an awesome game, and your support is even more awesome. But the forum as it is makes it difficult to handle. Take for example the "What should be in the expansion?"-thread: It is very exhausting to read through everythink and keep track how different ideas develop, where people have different opinions, what was allready said usw.

There should be more thread/sub-forums for that:
- New Units
- What to change about existing units
...and the same for events etc.
So if, for example, I come up with a new tech idea and want to see if it is real new, I just have to check one thread/subforum and not one big monster-thread...

Keep up the good work! :)

MAKE IT WORK Right ;)

For instance, I just noticed that there are no posts visible between 6:32 and 31:15 hours old. The posts are there (re www.galciv.com/forum.asp) they just don't show up in SDC.

It would be nice in addition to the various info screens along the right side of the screen if there were also right-click context menu navigation system that would pop up when you click on an empty section of space. The menu would cascade into various things for example all your planets listed in ascending or descending scale in terms of distance from the point clicked and be able to switch or see current building projects and perhaps launch ships as well; another example for ships by class and see them listed in cascading menus also in order of distance from the point and one would be able to assemble a fleet at the point clicked from the ships selected in the context menu.

The info screens are nice but sometimes I just want an even quicker and more efficient way to get at all my stuff. Lets say a ship or starbase is under attack. I simply right click on it or near it and can get a list of all my nearest planets and ships in a context menu, then I should be able to multiselect ships and tell them to assemble and attack and the point I clicked to get the menu in the first place.
