Could someone please, please, please explain production?

Ok, I'm getting lost. I have a big 'ole planet (say quality 25) with, oh, let's say 10,000 pop (I guess that is 10 billion?). Now, let us say that with all the industrial bonuses and everything that it takes this planet 20 days to make a dreadnaught. Now let us say that I spend the next year sending combat transports off this planet until the population comes down to, oh, let's say 3,000 pop. How long do you think it will take to build the dread? Try 23 days. Ok, it does take a little bit longer, but what the heck were the 7 billion people doing? It seems that population plays a very small part in the production output, espicially with larger planets. At this point, I'm looking at population as just bodies to invade with and not really to produce much with. At least with the nerfing of morale I don't have to keep shipping them off to "vacuum vacation spots".

Well, actually 1/3rd of your planets pop would be doing military construction, 1/3 would be doing social projects, and another 1/3 would be on the galaxy-wide research R&D team.

So in actuality, out of 10 billion people, 3.3 billion were working on military, and when you trimmed down to 1 billion, it took them that much longer. If you set your other sliders to 0%, that other 2/3rds of your planets population are lazing around, taking a much needed vacation. LOL

You can't expect some scientist geek or architect to be able to help build the lastest dreadnaught, after all.

Of course, the lost resource issue is still an issue.. I don't know if they are any closer to finding a balanced solution.

you are correct, population has little DIRECT effect on production...

BUT the higher your population, the more income you receive in taxes, allowing you to increase your spend rate, which in turn boosts your production.

BUT if your population gets too high, morale tanks, which reduces production.

so it's a matter of balance.

cheers
