System and a number

When looking at a system, there is a number after the system-name in tue upper right corner. What does that indicate. Right now when I checked, it's #0 at all my planets.

I just asked Kris and he said that it's going to be rank in the galaxy.

Each planet with a comparative rank in the galaxy? Neat, but isn't the supporting code going to be
costly on game performance?
