Getting Reports on Planets You Haven't Seen

If I click on the "Show Population" Button, I get to see the population of planets that I've never been to. This is a handy way to figure out where the aliens are. Is this a bug? I don't think I should be able to tell which systems are inhabited if I've never been there.

A bug? Hardly. It almost evens the score between you and the computer... they can see the entire map from the very beginning of the game.
