income of colonies

when do colonies create their own income? mine have max out thier population yet still do not generate an income. they do consume resourses

Not sure if it's a "rule" or not (as I'm only on my 2nd game) - but my colonies only seem to begin producing any income after I build the banking center project. Other factors would be having a reasonable population size. And of course remember the all important morale - after all only happy citizens pay taxes.

planets always produce income via taxes as gggie said. if you are referring to your planets not making money but instead losing money, that's just a matter of your spending percentage
