Eat'n good

there have been times when I was
little when finding food and eating was
a long walk with creative thinking
when I was 10 steve white told me
they had to throw the food out at the end
of the night
shit, for a while I ate steaks half eaten
soggy French fries, garlic toast and onion rings
almost every night
In the mornings the koffee kup kafe would
throw the day old donuts out before 6:00 am
sometimes there was trash on them and the
cream filling was squeezed out through the
sides, but it still tasted good
we lived in a tiny abandoned church by candle light
we painted it and promised not to curse when we were
inside
sue ann let me play with her 12 year old boobs
and told me she planned of at least 2 divorces
one day the sheriff came and found our little
place, Steve was the oldest, but they didn’t care
about him, they caught sue ann and her brother
paul
I ran through the mesquite trees hard and fast
scrapping and cutting my face and arms and legs
but they didn’t catch me
I hide in the cotton fields till they went away
it took me weeks to make my way to California
to find my mom in long beach, it’s funny
she was living hand to mouth and I slept in the
laundry
but I was never happier
