SciFaiku: Science Fiction Haiku

because being into one or the other wasn't nerdy enough

Whilst looking up "haiku" in Microsoft Bookshelf '96, I stumbled upon a website entry called The SciFaiku Manifesto.

"SciFaiku is a new form of poetry, based on the haiku, that is burgeoning on the Internet. Key differences are that the sole subject of the poem is science fiction as opposed to nature, the structure of 17 syllables is not as strict as in traditional haiku, and it usually contains a "science" word (as opposed to a "season" word in traditional haiku). It is these science words that pose the greatest challenge, as phrases like "space-time continuum" takes up several syllables."

Some samples from the site:

Asteroids collide
without a sound...
We maneuver between fragments.

Digging up an ancient city,
finding the print
of a tennis shoe.

It's interesting. Check it out.
