Miss Schroder
came to the fruit store
I worked in after school,
bought some apples bananas
a pound & a half of escarole
(on special) three great-fruits
though they were 5 for a dollar.
Benny, the bosses son
waited on her,
wrote the prices on the bag,
then added them up.
I’m sure if he knew
she was my teacher
he’d double check the math
& not have called her babe!
