The United Planets?

Okay, I tried posting this before. For some reason, it didn't get posted (or I can't find it).

I thought you would be able to bring your own proposals before the UP Council. So far, I have not seen this option. Was it removed in Beta testing, or was I just day-dreaming? :D

Can anyone help?

As of right now there are no immediate plans to allow initiation of UPIssues. However, we'll probably be adding a field in the UPIssue file type to indicate what Techs need to have been researched (by you or an alien race) before a proposal to appear. This won't solve the "proposition" idea you were asking for, but I think it's a step in the right direction ;)

It would be really nice to be able to bring up proposals though. It'd make that aspect of the game a bit more interesting. The best way to do it would be to associate some cost with issuing a new proposal (or revote on an old one). That way even if you had a voting block you still couldn't ram rod everything through that easilly.

Don't get me wrong..I'd LOVE to get that feature in. It'd certainly add another layer of depth to the United Planets, and just be fun to play around with. However, besides creating a interface for proposing isses, we'd also have to make the AI smart enough to propose ideas, which to implement and properly play test, making the feature harder to squeeze into the game midstream. I have talked about it with Brad before, and he's not against the idea, it's just not high enough on the priority list to justify the man-hours it'd take to get working properly :(

One way we could make both sides happy, i think, is to bring up 3 possible issues when the UP meets, and allow the race with the most votes to pick one out of the 3. Less AI code to get working, and the player (if leading in votes) would get to chose the issue, but also limits the player as to the choices they can make.

Again, though even this solution would take a bit more time that Brad may be willing to spend the feature. As long as people want it though, the idea will stay on our list ;)

I like when you have a UP meeting and it's for an issue worded with "we feel this..." and "we think.." but everyone votes against it. Makes me wonder what this "we" crap is, and where's the mouse in your pocket!?

Okay, that is freaky. As it showed, I posted via SDC. This topic still does not show up on SDC for me. Hm, maybe I will just post through the website from now on...

I understand that it would be alot of work to add in this option. It would require alot of AI writing to minimize the chances of someone easily manipulating the game. I figured that was why this option did not make it to the final cut.

I can live without it. But I would like to at least see a bunch of specific UP proposals that come up at specific techs. Kinda like the proposals in Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. We could even use some of the UP issues already in the game. Just make them accessible to the player.

We could have a button on the Foreign Policy>UP page. Clicking on it brings up a list of available proposals. By clicking one, you override the game's random pick with your proposal for the next meeting.

Of course, I know practically nothing about code. I'm just a player with an idea.
