Why do my games always crash?

Hey Hey everybody,
Today i have tryed to play two games but have not been able to get very far as the game always crashes to the desktop without an error message or a warning. Im getting just a little annoyed about it, but i think it has something to do with the playlist skip buttons becuase in both games they have crashed while skipping songs.
I was wondering if anybody else has experienced this problem and is there any way to fix this. All i want to do is play the game. :notsure:

oh and btw i have autosave turned off becuase i heard that it was supposed to stop the random crashes.

Try turning off the playlist. Is it, perhaps, your soundcard? I seem to remember something about SB Live's having a problem...

Basic fix for any game that crashes on me:

Turn off all unneccessary background programs.
Scan for viruses (use error-checker, too, if you have one).
Check for updated drivers for sound and graphics cards (make sure that the game's readme doesn't have issues with certain drivers/cards/godknowswhatelse).
Check game's support or forum for solutions (which, of course, you just did).
Finally, turn graphics/sound acceleration down a notch, just to see if it works.
(Reboot after "fixes" before playing, to get a fresh start)

Though I don't overclock myself, some have suggested that GalCiv doesn't like overclocking.

Yeh thanks Morpork (discworld is a great series btw) your a champ. I do not overclock myself although i do have a SB Live. Im going to have a look for updated SB Live drivers now.

Hmmm no luck with the driver update, i tryed playing Gal Civ again and when i got into the game i pressed the Skip back button twice and crashed to the desktop.kind of destressing.
Dose anybody else have advice to rescue me from this?

Make sure you get 1.03.54, it has the new MP3 stuff.

Also, grab Smart Exception (in SDC in the free stuff'. If you can send me a .cra file, I can find out where it crashed and solve it for ya. ;)
