I Am

 

I am me

I accept that I am

I accept what I am

But that doesn’t mean that I like what I am

Or that I am

 

 

What I’m Not

 

To be what I’m not

Is what I wish

Not to be someone else

Or even something else

Just to be a little different

From what I am now

To think that I can change

Is not enough

I feel it burning
Constricting my thoughts
My judgement
There is no room to move
To struggle
To scream
Would be upon deaf ears
My decisions are pointless
As they are yours
And mine have become worthless
My mind is withering
As it becomes dormant
Unused
Used
Abused
An obedient machine
I transform to your wishes
A dog who sits
Lays and fetches
But no bark
Who I once was
Has retreated
By force of a stronger power
And I realise
In a moment of truth
I am a child once more.
