Indiginous residents of new colonies.

There is nothing like the thoughts of others being posted here to get the cognitive juices flowing. So here is an idea I got after looking
at Frank's ideas.
In the OS/2 version there were occasional incidents where colonizing a planet lead to the discovery that the planet had an indiginous population,
sometimes pre-sentient, sometimes sentient, sometimes only with a sentient potential. In the OS/2 version the only possibilities were to restrict
your colony as to not interfer with the indiginant occupants, coopt the indiginous in some way, or esterminate them. Once you made the choice, it
was cast in stone. There was nothing dynamic about it after being established whether you were a good guy, average, or mean.
How about:
1). During colonization, if there is a sufficiently sentient indiginous population discovered, an option is included to ask the indiginous population
if they will join your civilization. The possible responses and counter responses could be:
A). Yes - and their population becomes an integral part of your colony along with their productivity.
. No - where:
a). You can avoid transgressing on their part of the planet, reducing your available resources (like in the OS/2 version). In this case:
I). At a later time they could:
A). decide to join you after all (especially if they see how much of a good guy you are compared to the other major races).
. Insist you leave, providing you with the other three choices all over again (leave, forcably coopt them, or exterminate them). They might even
request the assistance of another major race to assist in forcing you to leave. (There are also some political implications that could arise
here, such as an appeal to the United Planets.
. You can leave the planet, allowing another race to colonize it and be faced with the same choices. If another race successfuly
colonizes the planet with the option to avoid transgressing becomes displeasing to the indiginous occupants, the natives could ask for your assistance
in forcing them to leave.
c). You can forcably coopt the indiginous residents (like in OS/2, but with some political consequences).
d). You can exterminate them (like OS/2, but perhaps some severe political consequences should be possible, perhaps through the UP).
Anyway, its fun to dream this stuff up. I hope I don't overdo it and get people upset with me.
Cheers,
Jack
