Question about patches, and comments

Hi,
Does playing an older version of game give a lower scoring model upon finishing the game than playing with the latest up to date patch? Is there a clearly listed web page to see the changes with each update?
Noted high scores with the 1.03 at a low difficulty, might be the tougher AIs(in which case the answer would be "yes") but also came to mind that maybe there is a higher scoring system coded for playing at the highest patch version(latest patch) versus using an older version. At this point I like the pre 1.03 version of the game. It would be nice to be able to download the patch but turn off some of the changes, know that is improbable, but I like starbases they way they were pre 1.03. I am just starting to get into the game and am not ready to get rid of the pre 1.03 starbase system in the game. :( Mini patches fixing bugs and then patches making huge game changes(like the starbases) would be nice so you could choose to fix a bug(the multiple trade item being produced by multiple AIs after the player already developed it) but not accept the starbase changes patch. Maybe a checklist download thing where you check the changes of a new patch that you want and then download only those changes without being forced to take the rest in order to fix the things(trade items) that you want fixed.
Scoring seems to be a bit of a joke without a detailed account of how the whole process is calculated. Yes, I know all about those of you who do not care about scores and blah blah blah(do not reply, please!). But there are those of us who do with all shades of gray in between. I mean when you see a 23000+ score, um... how. Even 10000+ scores...how. Also, players submitting gigantic/crippling games with huge scores day right after day... how. A gigantic game takes me 40+ hours to finish, playing 6-8 hours a day. I cannot possibly see, with all the little in game chores, how a gigantic/crippling game, with a huge ending score could be completed in less than 30+ hours of play. And yes, I know the.. they could of ended the game at midnight and played another that day and submitted that, blah blah blah. Only thing I can think of is they have gotten around alot of the minute chores of the game to speed play up or they are cheating/exploiting the game mechanics(possibly even score submission) somehow. Once again, yes skill plays a factor, blah blah blah blah. It would be cool to see the scoring summaries of a few of these high scoring games submitted. Like to see the society/technoloty/economy/military summary scores versus those of the AIs in these high scoring games. I would actually like to see dozens of the score summary pics posted by the top players. It would actually be cool if the highest score you had on the metaverse for each player had an accessable score summary for that game. To get a pic of your summary is easy to do, just hit print screen key at end of game when the summary screen shows, alt tab out to paint and paste and save. Convert it to jpeg and post it for us curious folks that want to see to believe and help compare it to our meek scores. LOL. Just a few things that came to mind playing the game, exploring the forums, and looking at the jaw dropping scores of the metaverse top players. ;) Great game, but needs better clarity on scoring system. Why it is not clearly detailed is a mystery to me. Why hide the details, there are people who want to know and obviously people who have figured out how to get high scores. I can beat the AI at gigantic crippling, but not with the scores I see others post.

Thanks :D

Heres a link to the screenshots from my top scoring game if you want to look at them. http://www.geocities.com/norin27/index.html

Thanks for posting that Norin. I don't suppose you'd like to post the savegame as well? :)

Critchon,

When I get back from work, I will try to post these stuff from my latest game.

The game was with the following settings - Masochistic, Gigantic, Abundant, Cultural and Alliance Victory off.

I believe it was due to my endgame strategy of culture bombing my remaining opponents rather than taking each planet through invasions. In that way, their population (which is often huge) gets added to mine and I do not lose my population in terms of dead soldiers. My total population at the end is 5 trillion (or 5 thousand billion).

For that game, I want straight for the last 2 Arcean planets (which are tucked in a corner) once the last Yor planet fell to culture. However, as culture bombing was nerfed in 1.03, it took substantially longer to bring them down (I also take a while to realise that the Yor had 2 max influence SBs which were helping them to delay the inevitable). By this time as well, I have finished all tech except for final frontier.

Personally, I'm all for tweaking the scoring system to take more into account difficulty levels, type of victory and speed in which the game is completed rather than population.

Also for the record, I started the game on Friday night after the 1.03 update was released and finished it on Sunday night (no, I still slept 7-8 hours a day but played quite a lot during the day).
