Replayability

After 3 "Huge" games (normal, intelligent, then genius), I think I'm done for the time being (bored). Smaller maps don't suit my style of play and I won't give a try to Gigantic because of my CPU ...

Athough 1.03 seems promising, I will not play another game unless
1. The tech tree gets some more depth (what is the interest of a tech which gives no bonus and allows no new improvement ?).
2. Some interface improvements are implemented (auto-scout, rally points).
3. The starbases stacking and late game constructors management problem is addressed (I know this is in progress).

While only 3 games to get bored may seem little, it is still a respectable time of play and certainly comparable for me to other similar games. Also the process of continuous improvement of the game by the Stardock team is quite unique and I look forward to the June expansion pack.

The AI is the best of any game I've tried recently, probably because galciv is not multiplayer. But maybe the drawback is that the devs have to keep the game itself somewhat simple to allow the AI to catch up.

Now, what could be done (apart from improving the tech tree) to add some variations and replayability to the game ?

Events, events, events... take a look at EU2 (with the EEP project) and HOI (with the C.O.R.E. project). Complex event chains add great depth to playability and makes sure that no two games are ever the same.

This week the GalCiv crew will be sitting down to map out the official Expansion Pack list. Already planned are...
1. Tech Tree Navigation Screen (where you can see what techs lead to particular technologies)
2. Rally Points
3. Additional Events (not just the morality ones, but also the chained events)

Hopefully rally points will help with the constructor management problem. We'll have a more thurough list later in the week.
