Excalibur class ships

I thought I saw some reference in the game to these, and I recall that in the OS/2 version of the game they were my best ships, but I can't seem to find the necessary technologies in the new game to research them. Do they still exist?

Thanks

Holy [expletive deleted] I just checked in there and @ 3000BC, thanks but no thanks. (:(

My recollection was that it was a formidable fighting machine, but at reasonable cost. My current best (31+) planet was only generating about 30-40 credits a turn, so at around 100 turns I'll pass.

[btw, see my new thread re the Depression] (:( (:(

oh.. I forgot. I downloaded the bonuspak through the SDC installer. Did I have to do anything to activate it? The Excalibur is not showing up in my build list?

Excalibur technology is near the very end of the tech tree. By the time you get to that tech, your best planet (production capital, hyperion manufacturing center, etc) should be able to crank one out in under a year if you dedicate yourself to military production. The only bad thing about getting the tech so late is that by this time you're very close to getting a technological victory (only 4-5 techs left) that the Excalibur technology isn't really necessary unless you're in a huge war and need to hold off the enemy until you reach technological dominance. Though with the Excaliburs and a focus on only military production you might be able to wipe out the other civilizations before you could reach the end of the tech tree :D

Hmmm.. this might be good info. Thanks. I'm about 40% on either Military or Cultural victory and only about 6% on technlogical victory.. despite the fact that I'm playing Technologists.. .. back to the drawing board here.. :notsure:
