How does AI 'learn'?

When I was deciding to buy GalCiv, I really was interested in one of the features that talked about how the AI would effectively learn based on submissions to the Metaverse. I haven't seen it much discussed here and am wondering if this feature actually exists and is working. Maybe it would be neat as well to know to some degree how it works.

Anyone have any insight into this?

From what I've seen, Brad looks at the various loopholes and killer strats human players are using and then goes back and reworks the AI.

So it's not the AI that's learning. It's Brad! ... who then goes back and revamps the game, God bless him!

I'm one of the lucky guys who managed to d/l the updated work-in-progress manual. Learnt a couple of interesting things from it (i love reading manuals) such as the developers can see from the uploaded game stuff such as the things we build, techs we research (and in which order) and our general strategy. Definitely our setup as well, that's why they could see that almost everyone was choosing PQ15 previously.

I can somehow see his image of them loading up our games and projecting it onto a big screen, having the ability to look at our moves step by step from beginning to end, at the while scribbing furiously into a "Cheese Tactics" notepad :)

Naturally, they'd have to do this in a gigantic war room, a la Dr. Strangelove. Of course, the games need to be projected via a four-dimensional hologram.

Oh, and Brad needs an accent.

An accent and one of those thin handlebar mustaches that you twist around while laughing maniacally.

Anxiety, the original claim was that you could teach your own A.I. to play more like a top player had. I think this is what you're asking about. I don't think you can do this as of yet.

If they do it with one of my games, they'll be too busy laughing to take notes.

Actually, the AI also knows to keep track of stuff like how many times that you declare war, take out a few system, ask for peace, get a bunch of stuff, repeat. After awhile it just fights you to the death if you do that.

Just sounds pretty neat that the AI might "adapt" based on analysis of metaverse games. Whether it does it on its own or a human reviews and makes AI updates, I'm happy it's getting done... I get so put off by the mundane AI routines in so many other games - this has been a sincere pleasure...

From what I recall being said here, the plan is to *maybe* allow players to *download* new AI that play like Yin, or CariElf, or Frogboy, etc, etc etc.

Yep, that's the plan. :)
