AI Alliances = Permanent Wars

Here's the situation. The Arceans are allied with the Torians. They are at war with the Yor and the Drengin, who are not allied but not fighting each other. Every once in a while either the Arceans or the Torians will make peace with the Yor or the Drengin. That peace only lasts one turn because with only one of the two allies making peace, the other is left at war. On the next turn the ally that just made peace declares war on the empire it just made peace with to support its ally.

Because the two allied empires make peace seperately instead of together, they are locked into permanent war.

In my case this has turned what had been a tight game into a cakewalk. Because the AIs can't stop fighting I'm now left to tech up, build constructors and generally leave the AIs in the dust as they bleed themselves dry on each other.

There needs to be some adjustment made so the AI understands that allied empires need to make peace together.

I agree. Except in my situation i was the one under attack. Thats a problem!

Also, in the most recent game i "allied" with an AI who kept attacking others and dragging me into the wars. Can we have an option which allows the alliance to remain while we indirectly help? I declared war then the next turn made peace and got 150 for 50 months - without firing a short! That didnt seem fair. I'm playing evil though so who cares about fair.

or, what about separate peace? and the alliance should honor that until a set amount of turns...? Like the Torians make peace...and for 20 turns, the Altarians cannot "force" them into an alliance war...but once that 20 turns is up....

Oooohh.. I just saw this too and I also agree. I got a message that the Drengin made nice-nice to the Altarians we were warring against. And then a few turns later, the Drengin came back and said 'we'll support you in this war because we're such good allies'. This really is kindof strange and does make the possibility of permanent war...

the ai comes up short on so many levels. one of the major selling points of this game is supposed to be the AI, yet there are many times when it acts just like a stupid program running on numbers. one example is when a race goes to war with you, and will accept NO peace treaty deal, even if you playfully enter in every solar system, tech, and piece of equipment, they still won't, which shows it's not intelligent at all, it's just going to war for the sake of war, but if these entities are so smart, wouldn't they realize that by accepting all of your solar systems and planets, you would effectively be out of the game? another let down is when they're all allied with a bad race who likes to attack for no reason and they all go to war against you, first of all, why are pure good and good races allying with evil races in the first place?
also, is there any way for an AI to break an allience with another AI? i don't think there is, unless one of them attacks each other, which shows another vulnerability with the AI, it's locked into going to war with you because of an ally, because it has no other choice, or simply won't choose to break an allience, even though you are being attacked unfairly, these are examples of robots, not intelligent opponents
