So many questions, easy answers?

I just started playing GalCiv and have enjoyed it immensely. But I don't have tons of time to play it or figure things out that should have been in that pathetic manual. Is there some downloadable file that is more in-depth than the manual? Simple questions like how population affects production. In the game I'm playing one of my larger planets with a big population has only 5 shields in production and I dont know why it isn't much greater. All the sliders are on 1/3. What if you don't need any social building on one planet? Can you apply the "extra" to military? Do I just need to scour this forum for all my answers?

Some relatively easy answers....

1. A downloadable manual is being worked on. Frogboy will let us know when the final deal is ready.

2. Some things that influence your production is population, sliders, social projects on planet, racial picks, and technology.

3. I dont know how you can influence the military production for that one planet only short of being the necessary projects that will boost military for that planet. In a sense, the production sliders are more macro level than micro level.

If you wish to have more in depth information, there's the enclyopedia on this site as well as a couple fansites you'll see mentioned toward the top of the message list.

not sure about your production question, but if you leave any build queue empty (like the social queue on one planet) then the resources that should have gone there are lost, you can't redirect them. this is something that will hopefuly be fixed/changed/corrected sometime soon.

Bobo ask if Bonesy build production improvements on planet. Big population good. But not help if not have production and manufacturing improvements.
