Undocumented research cost multiplier: about +0.75% per tech researched

Have you ever wondered why it can sometimes cost significantly more to research a technology than what is indicated in the GalCiv data files? My hypothesis is that there is a undocumented research cost multiplier which scales in proportion to the number of technologies you already hold, and its value is roughly equal to +0.75% per technology you have, which may in turn be a result of distributing a +100% penalty over the 150 technologies in GalCiv (might exclude Smuggling I think). I have yet to find an exception to this in any of my games, and I would like to see if your experiences agree with mine before I start preaching about it ;)

This 'feature' was added towards the end of the beta. A number of possible implementations were suggested for it. It was discussed on the boards but obviously never got added to the manual.

Not sure. Would need to work it out from playing.

Discussion also centred on how much these should scale with galaxy size (or rarity of planets). Again there could be factor of this in there as well.
