Alpha 7 observations

Well one thing I've noticed is that you do not want to put the AI on most intelligent because it makes the game unplayable. It simply takes too much time to compute strategies later on and is too hard to boot. We'll have to put more stuff in threads but even then, threading won't solve someone (like me) wailing on the turn button. ;) We'll have to find more efficient algorithms for handling some of those computations.

In my estimation, putting the game on medium with AI's on medium should provide a pretty challenging game without it getting ridiculous. The size of the galaxy makes a big impact as well.

So we'll be working towards the beta to be quite a bit faster than alpha 7 (don't get me wrong, a7 isn't "slow" unless you get into large galaxies with very intelligent aliens).

Is this a new thing or could that bee the case with my slow game that I reported for the prevoius build?

I normally play with two aliens with the most intelligent setting, the rest from the dumbest to the mid-setting but I play on rather small maps.

I've heard that if you don't have even amounts of RAM in some motherboards that the extra ram isn't really used. Or something like that.

As for the slowdown occurring previous to this build, if you play on a larger map and have a lot of ships, then the slowdown probably would be caused by the huge number of ships. I'm going to be working on optimizing the update code, so it shouldn't stay a problem.

I can't say about the memory thing CariElf I think that has to do with older still's of MB's and chipset

example, I was running 256 and AO was running really poorly, I went to 384 and the game became much more enjoyable and more playable..
