Shucks, and I was so close

So I'm playing around with the data files, and I take a look at GCResource.RESOURCE.

Hmmm... OK, these are the 5 resources I know and love. But what about the 6th? The elusive Life Force resource?

So I add another resource, making it Type = 6. 6 not being in the file, logically it might be Life Force. I fire up GalCiv and start playing.

Lo and behold, I find that the Altairians have built a SB on a resource I've never seen before! It's blue and shiny, and the graphic matches the manual's picture for Life Force. I trade half my star systems to get the Altairians to give up the SB + resource, and...

nothing. No PQ bonus. Just some "String Not Found" messages.

Went into English.str, added "Planet Quality Bonus" strings for Mining6. Go back to game, my strings are there, but still no PQ bonus.

I added more mining modules, destroyed/rebuilt the SB, no love. Started new games until the blue resource was next door, still didn't affect PQ.

Shucks. Looks like Frogboy did more than remove it from the file, he nerfed it internally as well. It's probably for the best, if 15% PQ was broken, imagine what mining this resource could do.

Oh, and for the record, I tried Types 0 and 7-10. No graphics showed, so I don't think there are any more "hidden" resources lurking.

Though I understand the imbalance of a 15% PQ boost, isn´t it possible to make this bonus only available for planets with a base PQ of, let´s say 12-16?
Then that resource would make some sense in the game.

Stardock would have to hardcode that 12-16 limit, there's no settings within the resource file for that sort of thing.

I agree that something would have to be done before unleashing the Life Force resource, its very powerful.

Thx, H5O. Confirms what I had suspected.

Maybe Brad can rebalance and improve on this idea for the summer expansion.

It would appear that the resource types are hardcoded, so if the 6th type were to become Trade, Stardock would have to make that change.
